Can You….? Literacy Mats are reusable, wipe-clean A3 literacy mats perfect for practising early reading, writing and spelling skills and for building vocabulary. These mats can be used in conjunction with dough and other materials to make the target word, build it using magnetic letters, then write the word to practise early handwriting skills. The mats are also sold in an Literacy Mats and Accessories Kit (TEB7007K) which contains the mats and accessories. Opportunities exist to explore and compare letter attributes eg. straight lines, curved lines, and both, and the parts of upper and lower case letters. Building letters part-by-part and in correct sequence will help kids grasp accurate letter formation and legibility when writing. The mats can be used with a range of other resources such as sequins, beads, felt shapes and pom poms enabling students to practice their fine motor skills as they develop literacy skills in letter construction and formation, identifying beginning sounds and build an understanding of the relationship between letters and sounds.
